
Build a pickaxe, itll make gathering wood, coal, and copper much easier. The starting item mines VERY slowly while a pickaxe mines very quickly in comparison.
On your starting world, you should build a base at spawn using cheap easy to find materials to help defend you from flying birds, store your crafting table, and provide an area of respite. The number of swings it takes to kill an NPC will determine how difficult it is for you to kill. Enemy difficulty is determined by your DMS ability vs. New weapons drop off of enemies, can be crafted, or purchased at NPC stores. Your first goal in this game is to get a new weapon. When starting out, follow the quests and take your time. Ive broken the tips out into easy to digest sections, but they should help everyone whos got some problems in getting into Starbound. It's dangerous to explore deep into a moon, so it's definitely okay if you just want to just skim the surface of the planet looking for the crystal Erchius fuel.Ive had some trouble when I first started out Starbound, but I took notes of what I did and didnt have trouble with to compile it into a list of 50 tips for new Starbound players. To collect it, you will need the liquid collection upgrade for your Matter Manipulator. Underground, you may also encounter the fuel in liquid form. There will be deposits of fuel along the surface of the moon, but you will be able to find larger clusters the farther underground you are. To mine the fuel, approach it with your mech and right-click. You can choose any moon as they all contain Erchius fuel.Īfter exploring the moon's surface, you will notice clusters of glowing pink ore. Once you have either the EPP or mech, head to a moon. Akaggy (a penguin) to take a mech for a test drive, and you will receive a basic one after the course is complete. To get your first mech, complete the Test Drive quest, which can be found in the underground portion of the Outpost.
If you don't have the Breathing EPP, you can also use your mech. This EPP will allow you to breathe on moons and underwater. You can craft a Breathing EPP from an anvil with 6x tungsten bars, 10x glass, and 1x living root. Moons have no atmosphere, so you will either need the Breathing EPP or a mech.
